As a parent, you want to ensure your children learn to help the people around them. This valuable teaching will build strong character and hopefully follow them through to adulthood. Here are three ideas to get you started:

  1. Donate old toys to kids in need. Have your kids go through their older toys or donate a new toy to kids who are less fortunate.

  2. Donate to your local food bank. Rummage through your pantry with your little ones or pick up some items up at your grocery store to donate to your local food bank.

  3. Clean up your neighbourhood. Picking up litter is a fun, simple, free activity that can have instant results for your child and your community.

  4. Join an activity-based fundraiser. Getting kids involved in fundraising is the perfect way to teach them to help others. An activity-based fundraiser ensures your child is not only learning a valuable lesson, but also the importance of physical activity.

A great way to do both is by joining Lace Up to End Diabetes. Participants choose their physical activity (walk, run, dance, etc.) and raise money to help end the condition. Find more information at laceup.diabetes.ca.
