The coldest time of year is slowly approaching us. From the heaps of snow to the freezing temperature, a lot of damage can be done to our skin, hair and overall beauty routine in the winter season. Here are some great products to make it easier to get through the longest season in Toronto (Boo!)
Invest in a good moisturizer – It’s extremely important to keep hydrated and moisturized in the cold weather. During the winter, your skin can become dry, which can cause further skin related complications. In order to avoid this, opt for oil based moisturizers such as pure/raw/organic/extra virgin (look for these words when buying) coconut oil or jojoba oil. I’ve used both of these and they work amazing. If you’re looking for something cream based, I highly recommend the Body Shop’sBody Butters. My favourite is the Vitamin E one. They’re great because they’re in a tub, which is more moisturizing to slap on rather than to use a lotion that is squeezable from a tube. My doctor told me this method is especially great for those dealing with dry skin, and other issues such as Eczema.
Pucker up and moisturize those lips! Lip care is super important in the winter season in order to prevent chapped, cracked or dry lips. Apply often. I personally love how rich and moisturizing Vaseline’s Lip Therapy in Cocoa Butter is. It also smells delish! For added SPF protection, I also enjoy Blistex DCT, which includes SPF 20 to provide sun protection for your lips.
Unfortunately, the cold weather can also make our hair dried out and dull. A great solution to this is to put loads of moisture back into your hair. Oil your hair with organic oils at least once a week, wash and then condition with a rich conditioner. I’ve heard amazing things about Kerastases’ masques. They have a few that are geared towards different hair types and problems. There’s a solution for everyone!
For dry or cracked heels, I’ve found that putting on some Vaseline or Vicks VapoRub and a sock on top heals it instantly. Try this tip out to see if it works for you!
Lastly, as great as a long, hot shower may feel after spending most of your day outside in the extreme cold, it’s not a great idea. Hot water dries out the skin, and with winter weather drying it out already, it may do more damage than good, depending on how sensitive your skin is. Opt for shorter showers with warm water.
