Highly Sought-After Classical Indian Dancer Parshwanath Upadhye Brings His Inspiration to Sampradaya Dance Creations’ Home Season.

In the world of classical Indian dance, there are some dancers who carry a buzz of excitement around them and Parshwanath Upadhye from India is one of them. As a highly sought-after dancer who is enjoying an ever-growing fan base cultivated around his work as a dancer, Sampradaya Dance Creations (a professional South Asian dance company) is thrilled to have Parshwanath Upadhye taking on the role of Guest Choreographer and Lead Dancer for our home season production – Punyah Krishna.

Punyah Krishna, inspired by the selected verses of Adi Shankaracharya’s famous poem “Krishnashtakam” has been choreographed by Upadhye to be an aesthetically rich and stylistic bharatanatyam work. The performance will evoke the essence of Lord Krishna by bringing to life the evergreen tales of his multifaceted nature. From an irrepressible toddler to an irresistible lover, from a beautiful dancer to a gallant warrior, the life of Krishna reveals a playfulness and ever-present greatness.

“It is refreshing to see someone like Parshwanath who is so keenly committed to sharing this classical dance tradition that connects with the next generation of audiences in India and abroad”, shares Lata Pada, Artistic Director for Sampradaya Dance Creations. “Inviting him to share his work in bharatanatyam as a dancer and choreographer is an important opportunity for other dancers, colleagues in dance and arts patrons in our own community to experience”, concludes Pada.

Upadhye is equally excited to make his debut as a choreographer. “Most may be familiar with me as a dancer but, I really enjoy the process of creating dance works and I am excited to be able to share that side of me as well”, shares Upadhye. Most recently, he danced in Sampradaya’s production of Pralaya which was collaboration with Balinese artists that toured across Canada in 2016.

There will be two opportunities to catch Upadhye’s Canadian debut as a choreographer and to experience his vibrancy as a performer with shows scheduled for July 15, 2017 at 7pm and July 16, 2017 at 4pm at Sampradaya Theatre in Mississauga.

Tickets for Punyah Krishna have been selling fast for both performances and there is limited seating. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sampradaya office at 905-607-8434. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 dollars for students/seniors/arts workers.
