I would never be so foolish as to proclaim an Oscar contender so early in 2014 but if you don’t hear more about this film come Award’s Season I will be surprised. It stars Hollywood heavy hitters Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo. The story is a psychological thriller that tells the fascinating story of Olympic gold medal-winning brothers Mark and Dave Schultz. This true crime drama will definitely be a hot contender critically and commercially.
Name one bad Christopher Nolan film…you can’t because there aren’t any. After the success of the Dark Knight Franchise and saving the Kodak Corporation (seriously look that up) Nolan casts Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain in the story about a group of explorers who discover a wormhole to surpass the limitations of human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. It sounds like this years ‘Gravity’.
The truth is you can’t make films like this in Canada without having some talent. After his successful debut in Breakaway and critical praise in David, Vinay Virmani ropes in one of TV’s biggest stars, Kunal Nayyer to create a buddy comedy with a message.
Canada is ripe for a successful buddy comedy and hopefully this is the one that puts us back on the international map.
Hey Bollywood fans this one is for you and if my radar is correct this film will break box office records in India and North America for a Bollywood Film. Can you go wrong with the formula of SRK, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone…do I need to continue? Directed by Farah Khan the movie has all the makings of this year’s blockbuster and it’s about time. I’m expecting this film to be off the charts and break all kinds of box office records.
Hey too cool for Bollywood fans…. Anurag Kashyup has a few tricks left up his sleeve, and the one thing you can’t fault him for is being interested in telling diverse stories. Ranbir Kapoor stars in the film based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables. I’m expecting a slick, intense and clever film that will once again break the traditional Bollywood mold.
