Over the last few years, we’ve seen some extraordinary talent emerge from our very own Torontonians – one of the most notable being, Mani Jassal, a Toronto based fashion designer. Through each of her collections, it is evident that Mani is definitely one to experiment with colour, design, and overall theme and presentation. Like a true designer, Mani’s newest collection, Udaipur Tea Party, is different from her other collections, such as Dark Moon (which I still adore, such stunning pieces!). As far as I can remember, for me anyway, Mani was the one who set the trend of westernizing an ethnic Indian piece. I absolutely loved her previous collections because of that. It was so eye-catching – with ethnic tradition, along with some modern Western twists.
Udaipur Tea Party reminds me very much of what the title implies, Udaipur, a beautiful city in India. The mesmerizing gold reminds me of the tall majestic palaces, the piercing aquatic shades make me think of the beautiful crystal water, and of course, black and white to tie it all together. A beautiful city is conveyed through a stunning collection filled with mesmerizing shades, unique patterns, and a bit of a more rebellious design. The inspiration behind this collection actually came from the mountains, water, and grand marble architecture in Udaipur. It is clear that each of Mani’s collections seems to tell a story through fashion, and every time, the theme is absolutely spectacular. Her pieces are eye catching, edgy, elegant, and different every time. She embodies exactly what it means to be a designer, growing, and showing that through each collection.
The models all had a very clean, sleek look with pin straight hair, middle partings, dark lips, and for some – statement earrings to tie the look together.
Mani is a designer whose talent I appreciate, and whose work I absolutely love. Her pieces are all hand-made in Canada. I cannot wait to see what she unveils for her next collection!
