Oscar Nominated Film Hidden Figures is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD
Hidden Figures was one of the most talked about movies of the last year. The Oscar nominated film showcases the challenges, struggles and victories of three female mathematicians working in a segregated section labelled “Black Computers” at NASA in the 1960’s.
This real-life story tells the tale of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), strong beautiful women who beat the odds, shook things up, and played key roles in major space exploration missions. These brilliant African-American women were the brains behind one of the most electrifying projects of the ‘Space race’ – the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire the world and generations to dream big.
- Katherine Johnson (played by Taraji P. Henson) –
part of the team that calculated rocket trajectories and eventually helped accomplish the moon landing in 1969. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her 33 years of work at NASA in 2015.
- Dorothy Vaughn (played by Octavia Spencer) – her
extraordinary mind got her hired as a “human computer,” and she used her skills to improve the speed and power of U.S. military aircraft. When computers were introduced, she was ahead of the game and learned FORTRAN, becoming a pioneer in computer programming. Dorothy was with NASA for 28 years.
- Mary Jackson (played by Janelle Monáe) – starting
out as a human computer, Mary’s persistence and determination led her to become NASA’s first black female engineer. Always striving for more, she later became Langley’s Federal Women’s Program Manager and was an advocate for other women working to make careers in math, science, and engineering.
The empowering drama, Hidden Figures is now available on Digital HD, on Blu-ray, and will be on DVD, April 11.
