DEEWA – The Festival of Lights was held on November 14th at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.
This event was presented by the MD Foundation. “Deewa-The Festival of Lights is a flagship cultural event for MD Foundation,” says Linda Thomas, Executive Director, MD Foundation. “Our objective is to showcase the rich diversity in Canada and Deewa is our endeavor in that direction. We are bringing together artists from all over the world to offer a true global artistic experience to the people of the region.”
This year’s festival had a day full of activities for families, which included face painting, henna application and performances. Later, there were various performances for the audience to enjoy. This included various acts by singers Pratik Peters and Shrija, dance groups Sanskriti Arts Ensemble and Entertainment, Shaan Punjab Dee, Nrithyakshetra Dance Academy, Afsana Dance Group, South Asian Alliance (York University) and illusionist Raman Sharma. The concert was headlined by Award Winning UK R&B Artist, Arjun. A fashion show that showcased the latest designs by Satya Paul Canada was also part of the evening schedule.
The event attracted hundreds of people throughout the day. It was a great way to have the community celebrate Diwali with their friends and families.
